the start of week 2

April 26, 2010

I was able to work out 3 times last week, which is two days less than what I wanted. And the diet is proving to, again, be the biggest challenge. When I go grocery shopping today I just need to focus on getting the stuff that I know is good for me; if I don’t have junk food in the house then I won’t eat it. At least the soreness in my body is gone. The first couple weeks is always the hardest when I start out, but I still feel good. I know that this process is not a sprint. It takes time to develop good habits.

why do you believe?

April 22, 2010

Yesterday I had my day off after two grueling (yeah right) days of working out. This go ’round I am going to take it easy as I don’t want a repeat of being injured. I took the time to do some more studying for my computer certifications, and to do some more reading of my Why We Believe What We Believe book.

I am in the section of the book where it talks about how experiences can solidify a belief in something, even if there is proof contrary to that believe. The author told of a story of how his mother swore she saw a wolf in her back yard (she lived in Philadelphia), while the police officer that came swore that it was just an alley cat. However, whenever his mother told the story she would always say she saw a wolf. The fact that she lived in Philly (where I am sure stray wolves aren’t common) and that another person saw something different didn’t matter. The fact that she felt it was a wolf caused her to remember the story that way, and believe it really was a wolf.

The book really makes me want to reevaluate the things I believe, and the things that I chose to believe from others. We tend to automatically believe something someone close to us says. Heck, we even believe stuff people we don’t know say, if it goes along with our perception of reality. Take a look at all the “experts” we have guiding this country. Someone with a long string of letters after their name can say something and it suddenly becomes the truth. What I want to do is have more of an open mind in terms of what I believe.

I also want to pose a question: why do you believe what you believe? I really find the topic of religion interesting because it involves faith, which is “the evidence of things not seen.” I find it fascinating. So what experience caused you to believe in God the way you believe in Him? Have you even had a moving experience, or do you just practice your religion because your parents told you it was the right thing to do?

body is hurtin’!

April 20, 2010

Even though I only did half of the first round on P90X Chest and Back, I am sore are hell! That’s what I get for being off for too long. I also got to do some shooting around (basketball) yesterday for about 30-40 minutes, so that helped. The dieting went well until the night, when I had two plates of spaghetti…at around 7p and 9p. No bueno!! Today I am going to shoot around again and then do Insanity tomorrow. I have made a new goal: to incorporate SOME sort of physical activity each day, no matter what it is. I also want my eating to be healthier. Those two goals together will ultimately have me losing weight, and keeping it off.

I also finally am reading the Why We Believe What We Believe book, and it is really good so far. I have always been interested in knowing why people believe or do things even when it seems illogical or “wrong.” This book is definitely enlightening. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to hobble to the shower…

beginning again

April 18, 2010

I know I have said this before, but I am starting this process again. Got to keep a positive look on things. I slacked so hard after my injury, and I have no one to blame but myself. That being said, I have no one else to look to in order to get things back on the right track; I am the only one who can start it again. So tomorrow will see me begin…again. Wish me luck!

got out today

February 23, 2010

Today was a nice warm day and I was able to get out and play some tennis with my daughter. I love it down here. The weather is so nice. I plan on getting in at least 30 minutes of outside activity each day. Keilah was done after about 10 minutes today, but it was still good. Can’t wait for tomorrow.

Well look who decided to get back on my blogging ish! Man, it has been a while since I graced WordPress with my words, but I have to get back on the bandwagon. I have been slippin’ for a while, but I now know what I need to do to get back on track. I had to look at a couple of things in my life and get rid of them in order to get back on the right path. So I hope to update this much more often and I still hope to reach my goal by my 32nd birthday. I AM BACK, BISHES!!

day 138: a new year!!

January 1, 2010

Happy New Year!!! Let’s get it on! It is soooo on when I get back home. The diet is definitely coming back, as is exercise. I gotta get my sexy back…

I found my motivation: my life will be my MMORPG! Let the game begin…January 1st…

day 131: Merry Christmas

December 25, 2009

Merry Christmas everyone! Today was just great, getting to see everyone open their presents. The kids loved it.

Right now we are heading down to Orlando for Christmas, which should be a good time. We let the little one open on of her presents beforehand. We got her the Nintendo Wii, which she loved. That should allow for fun family times.

As for me it is the same old thing. I am really getting in to getting these certifications. I really think it will help with my professional career. I see myself running my own IT consulting firm soon, and I need these initial certifications to get my foot in the door. I need to start working out again people. I haven’t gained that much weight back, but it is still going in the wrong direction.

Hey! We also got a laptop. It was kind of a rush purchase but it is cool. Wifey really likes it, though. It was for her. Nice joint with Windows 7 on it, which I thing is a great OS.
